Looking back at our 2010 hike, we have re-evaluated our food menus to give us more calories, 

adjusted our gear to bring our base weight down 

and we made the decision 

to take a mountaineering snow safety course 

(Wendy slipped down an icy slope in 2010).

In March we headed to Mammoth, CA to spend the day learning from a mountain guide how to safely hike snow sections, use our ice axes correctly and how to self arrest in the event we slipped and fell.  

What was the take away from this class??  

Not to get in a position that either of us 

needs to self arrest!
